Parent Participation

Makarrata has an open-door policy where parents are welcome to visit the Makarrata Centre at any stage throughout the day, or phone to check if your child is settling in. Parents may stay with their children as long as they desire upon drop-off or pick-up, as long as visitations are within the centre’s hours of operation.

Individual Needs of Children

In line with our vision policy, staff at Makarrata will ensure that all children of all types of needs, both physically and mentally, are catered for within the centre. If your child has a disability which would be considered outside the range of normal behaviour or intellect, an appointment needs to be made with the director to discuss how we can best accommodate your child, and ascertain what level of care is required.

Cultural Relevance/Gender Equity

Makarrata Christian Child Care considers all children – girls or boys - from all cultures to be worthy of God’s love. From time to time the centre may offer an activity or excursion to foster increased understanding of different cultures. Games and activities will be provided to cater for the needs and interests of both girls and boys.

Excursions

The centre will from time to time offer an excursion outside of the centre. Some examples are:

  • Picnic lunch under the trees
  • Visit to a playground
  • Story and craft at the local library
  • Bush walks at local forest parks

Parents will be notified of an excursion well ahead of time, and will be asked to fill in a permission form, providing emergency contact numbers, medical details etc. Please notify the centre if you do not wish your child to participate in a particular excursion. Parents are welcome to attend any and all excursions.

Media

All music played in the centre will be Christian-based
Occasionally a DVD may be played for the children. These too will be Christian-based.

Toys/Activities/Books

Where possible, these will be Christian-based or have a Christian theme.

Eating Procedures

At meal times and snack times children will be encouraged to thank God for the food He provides for us. We ask that all children (of an appropriate age) have in their lunch box at least one piece of fruit, and we also ask that no lollies, sweets, chippies, corn-chips or soft-drinks be brought into the centre. Due to a high number of children suffering from anaphylaxis, no nuts and nut-products will be permitted in the centre. If you have any queries or would like some advice about age-appropriate nutrition for your child, please speak to the staff.
